Slides 43-52 Notes

Today we are taking notes on the slides 43-52 in Chi Cago's Rome slideshow. Right after the death of Caesar, a second triumvirate took over with an 18 year old Octavian, Mark Antony, and Lepidus. Then Octavius turns them into enemies by forcing Lepidus to retire. This causes Mark Antony to run off to join forces with Egypt, but they are soon defeated at the Battle of Actium. Now as the sole leader of Rome, Octavian is given rank of Augustus and Imperator, and he is now considered an emperor. This makes Rome an empire now, and Octavius spends about 40 years as the emperor. He even made a time of Roman peace called Pax Romana, which lasted for an astonishing 207 years. He spread Rome into Africa, and started the construction of some basic but impressive services all around Rome. After his death however, a few other emperors took over. The first of which was Tiberius, who was reluctant, but also a great general. The second was Caligula, who only ruled for about 4 years, and was considered to be a terrible leader. There later was an assassination attempt on his life, but he survived. Next came Claudius, who had cerebral palsy, and only got into power because of being the last man in the family. His wife unfortunately killed him so Nero could get power instead. Nero had a plan to make Rome more majestic, but just ended up stealing money from sacred places due to overspending.

A Few More Weeks of Cyber School

  Since we are all getting way more time off from school than was originally planned, I can't help but think about how everyone was normal just a few weeks ago. As you mentioned, with this we all have more responsibilities with COVID-19 going around, but at least it comes with some perks too. I think that I've become more independent with work, and self control with completing it on time instead of procrastinating. I agree that with cyber school, everyone can take something from this, and hopefully come out of this with a thankfulness to be in school with all your classmates. It does make you think though how much longer we will be stuck at home, just because all the state is doing is pushing back when we go back to school. I hope we will all be able to see each other in the last part of the school year, but I guess only time can tell.

Alexander and his Horse

  Today we have been assigned to write all about the relationship of Alexander the Great, and his trusty steed Bucephalus. Well as you said, he was only 13 when the two met, and this was when Ale xander stopped a few attendants who tried to take Bucephalus away for being too wild. Then the boy made a bet that he could tame it, and all the other people all laughed at him. Alexander realized something interesting that others couldn't, that the horse was afraid of it's own shadow. This was the way that Alexander was able to tame him so quickly, and the two became inseparable. Later, they fought in so many battles, ranging from the city-states, Thebes, Gaugamela, and India. They were so connected that when Bucephalus was kidnapped, Alexander said he would destroy everything, and kill everyone. It's unknown how the horse died, but Alexander loved him so much he named a city, Bucephala, in his honor. It's very impressive  how he only took one horse to ride, and used him throu

The Ancient Greek Theaters

1) At the time in ancient Greece, there were two types of drama, tragedy and comedy. A tragedy was a more serious and somber play, with some more common themes of love, death, or hate. On the other hand, a comedy was a play with a more uplifting themes, and contained lots of crude humor and jokes. 2) a) When I was in middle school, I was in the play for all three years there. I wouldn't really consider the three comedies, even though they all had a few jokes throughout. They were definitely similar to ancient Greece, since we built sets for the stage, and we had costumes for the actors to wear. Of course girls were allowed to be in this rather than ancient Greece, where young boys played the women's roles. 3) This Theater was a semi-circle, and was elevated so everyone could see the stage. It was also open, which meant it was exposed to the elements outside. The actors would preform in the middle of the pit area, and the only way for people to hear them is to talk loudly, s
